A definition of the tennis coaching process is: ‘The purposeful engagement of the athlete and the coach for the purpose of improving performance’ (Lyle & Cross, 1999; Lyle, 2002)
Stages of the Tennis Coaching Process
A coach and player continuously collaborate to enhance the player’s performance across diverse contexts and timeframes. They are invariably somewhere in the tennis coaching process, navigating numerous cycles from the span of a drill to potentially multiple years.
The most adept coaches understand and can oversee continual, smaller cycles of the tennis coaching process - progressing and merging to fulfil larger cycles.
